It is always a pleasure to express the beauty one finds in the ordinary things of everyday life.
I try to bring a sense of art and poetry to whatever I do.

I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane; with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My art output consists primarily of location sketches, studio drawings and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] depicting local street views. Aside from hand drawing, which is a great pleasure, much of my work is an exploration of the meeting of hand and computer ... the meeting of craft and industrial process.

In August 2024 I participated in ASIALINK SKETCHWALK PENANG, a major international sketching event attracting 500-700 participants, as an invited urban sketching demonstrator. I’ve been invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale but can’t afford the starting price. BOOKS
My sketches are included in The World of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in USA in 2022. The book, available available on AMAZON, illustrates work by 157 sketchers from 59 counties with Peter Richards and myself representing Brisbane Australia.

DESIGN BACKGROUND
My work as a design architect has long finished. This gallery is a resume of my work from around 2000 to 2016. The first five folders are projects associated with my house in Taringa The following PROJECT folders illustrate my design work for other design offices.
     PROJECTS 2012-2016 | DC8 STUDIO
     PROJECTS 2011-2012 | MODE DESIGN
PROJECTS 2009-2010 | FORM LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS
     PROJECTS 2001-2009 | MIRVAC DESIGN

The work shows my interest in contemporary architecture and contemporary landscape, in the integration of architecture and landscape, the production of artscapes, and the meeting of new and old. The expression of my work was varied. Each project was a response to the particular context and relationships. Aside from the usual ingredients, many things found a home in my work ... graphic art, theatrical gestures, wit and humour, the contrast of old and new, textures, industrial materials, Japanese aesthetics, light and shadow, pattern making, ephemera, colour, space and mathematics. Given the opportunity, my work was always an exercise in craftsmanship.
