ART + GRAPHICS
I’m an artist and a member of Urban Sketchers Brisbane with a 50 year design background in architecture, urban design, landscape architecture and graphics. My output consists primarily of sketches and hybrid drawings [digitally edited and assembled] which depict Brisbane and Ipswich street views including many heritage listed buildings and sites. The collection of more than 350 sketches and studio works on my website been produced since joining Urban Sketchers in mid 2017.
Between 2018 and 2023, I’ve been a finalist in art awards including the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award [Grafton Regional Gallery], 2022; Harold & Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize, Royal Qld Art Society - 2021, 2023 3rd prize; Clayton Utz Art Award - 2020, 2021; Lethbridge Small Scale Art Award 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022; Lethbridge Landscape - 2021, 2023; ArchiGraphicArts [Moscow] - 2018, 2019; and the Ipswich Art Award - 2019, 2022, 2023. I was invited to exhibit my work at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2020 and 2023.

As representatives of Brisbane Australia, a number of sketches by myself and Peter Richards are included in The World of Urban Sketching by Stephanie Bower published in the United States in Nov 2023. The book of some 600 sketches is available on AMAZON.

WORK FOR SALE
Most of my work is for sale as greeting cards and prints. Work can be customised to suit individual aesthetic or size requirements. I can print out much of the work up to 2.5m high to a variety of media including paper, canvas, self-adhesive vinyl sheet, aluminium plate and acm board. Work can be purchased directly from me. Purchases can be digitally invoiced via Square and paid by credit or debit card. Contact me for details.

The work shows my interest in contemporary architecture and contemporary landscape, in the integration of architecture and landscape, the production of artscapes, and the meeting of new and old. The expression of my work was varied. Each project was a response to the particular context and relationships. Aside from the usual ingredients, many things found a home in my work ... graphic art, theatrical gestures, wit and humour, the contrast of old and new, textures, industrial materials, Japanese aesthetics, light and shadow, pattern making, ephemera, colour, space and mathematics. Given the opportunity, my work was always an exercise in craftsmanship.
